Insect Control

Insects can affect many areas in farm production and can be significant nuisances around buildings and homes in rural areas.  Flies are one of the most common pests and their significance ranges from their nuisance status to their health impact on food production.  Stored product pests can cause damage to seeds, stock feed and stored grain. Mosquitoes can transmit human and animal diseases and are also a biting nuisance. Seasonal pests such as grasshoppers, crickets and millipedes can not only cause damage to crops but also be a nuisance around homesteads and damaging to gardens.

Bayer Environmental Science has a range of products which can be used to control these pests:

Coopex Residual Insecticide is a general purpose synthetic pyrethroid, residual spray which can be applied to a wide range of surfaces and which provides residual activity up to 4 months on certain surfaces against insects such as flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches and other nuisance pests. It can also be used to treat pasture seed to help prevent losses from seed-harvesting ants and has applications in the preservation of skins and hides against hide beetle attack.

Ficam W Insecticide is a carbamate insecticide which is registered for use against a wide range of nuisance pests (similar to Coopex) but can also be used for the control of millipedes and for application into European Wasp nests. It can also be used as a treatment for pasture seed to prevent losses from seed harvesting ants.

Both of these products are available as dry formulations (water dispersible powders) in unit-dose packaging to minimise handling and for easier measuring. For more information click on the product quicklink.
