Bayer Environmental Science offers a unique insecticide plus fertiliser tablet combination product (called Initiator) which can be used to provide extended protection of seedling eucalypts against the damage caused by various insect pests. The fertiliser component within this tablet enhances seedling growth.

Trials, which have been conducted around Australia, show that this product can protect seedlings for up to two years (depending on conditions, growth rate etc) and it adds a significant growth improvement over standard cultivation practices.

The environmental benefits of using a single, highly-targetted, tablet application (which is placed into the soil at planting time) over (potentially multiple) application of insecticides from the air, are clear.
