Bayer Environmental Science offers a unique insecticide plus fertiliser tablet combination product (called Initiator Systemic Plant insecticide and Fertiliser) which can be used to provide extended protection against the damage caused by various insect pests of seedling eucalypts in plantation forestry situations and numerous other plant species in landscape and ornamental situations. The fertiliser component within this tablet enhances seedling growth and establishment.

Trials, which have been conducted around Australia, show that this product can protect seedlings for up to two years (depending on conditions, growth rate, etc) and it has been shown to add significant growth improvement over standard cultivation practices.

The environmental benefits of using a single, highly-targetted, tablet application (which is placed into the soil at planting time) over (potentially multiple) applications of insecticides from the air, are clear.

Insects can also cause significant damage to mature trees in various situations. In Australia  we have a number of native and exotic pests which cause damage (this group of insects includes elm leaf beetle, sycamore lace bug and winter bronzing bug in eucalypts).  SilvaShield Injectable Tree Insecticide is another unique product which can be used to protect trees from the damage caused by these types of insect pests. SilvaShield has been formulated for direct injection into trees where it is taken up systemically to protect the foliage of various tree species against the damage caused by insects such as thaumastocorids, sycamore lace bug, leaf blister sawfly and fig leaf beetle.
