K-Obiol Combi - Synergised Grain Protectant
K-Obiol Combi grain protectant has deltamethrin as the active component. Insect resistance that is occuring with methoprence based grain protectants is therefore not an issue with K-Obiol.
Currently K-Obiol is only sold to Bulk Handling Companies (BHC). This is by agreement between Bayer and the APVMA and has arisen due to the concern from some users of grains, particularly the meat industry, that incorrect use could lead to residues of the deltamethrin carrying over to the meat from animals fed grain treated with K-Obiol and causing problems in meat export markets.
Bayer is developing a Product Stewardship program which is intended to overcome the concerns in the meat industry and allow K-Obiol to be more widely used by those who store grain. The main features of the program are that only those who have taken training in the use of K-Obiol and have passed a test will be permitted to purchase K-Obiol. Distributors will be expected to check intended purchasers have done the training. In addition grain accumulators will be expected to operate to an approved quality management system.
Approval of the Product Stewardship program is expected late in November 2011 and the training program and approval to purchase will commence immediately.
Those who are interested should check this web site for further information. Training will be available via this web site.
