Employing some 128,000 people worldwide, the Bayer Group has a portfolio of more than 10,000 products and operations in nearly all countries of the globe. Worldwide operations are managed from Group headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany.

Bayer Australia Limited is a fully owned subsidiary of Bayer AG, and has had a presence in Australia since 1925. With star products including Advantage®, Aspirin® and Pluravit®, we continue to offer a variety of top products and treatments for all Australians.

Background:

  • Established over 130 years ago, Bayer is an international, research-based group with major businesses in health care, crop science, polymers and specialty chemicals
  • Bayer is the company behind groundbreaking products such as the world's best-known painkiller, Aspirin®, developed in 1899.
  • Bayer has had a presence in Australia and New Zealand for more than 75 years, and has made a significant investment in local research and manufacturing.
  • Business Areas: Bayer is structured into four business subgroups: Bayer Healthcare, Bayer CropScience, Bayer Polymers and Bayer Chemicals.
  • Products: More than 10,000 products, ranging from Bayer Aspirin to antibiotics, pigments, plastics, veterinary and diagnostic solutions.
  • 2001 financials: The Bayer group recorded sales of EUR 30.3 billion and a group net profit of EUR 965 million. Capital expenditures totaled EUR 2.6 billion in 2001 and EUR 2.6 billion were invested in research and development. Bayer's operations in Australia/New Zealand/Oceania generated $A 559 million in revenue in 2001.
  • Employees: Around 800 people in Australia/New Zealand; 128,000 people worldwide (as at June 2002).

Our Company - Organisational Structure

In July 2002, Bayer was restructured at an international and local level to increase its competitiveness and responsiveness to the market. In Australia and New Zealand Bayer is now structured into four business subgroups, which are further divided into specialised business divisions as follows.

Bayer in Australia represents a group of companies. This group of companies includes Bayer Hodgsons Pty Ltd and Laserlite. These are both wholly owned subsidiaries of Bayer Australia who produce a diverse range of products.
